PT Marga Mandalasakti (Astra Infra Toll Road Tangerang–Merak) was established on October 4th, 1989 and officially commenced commercial operations on April 1st, 1990. PT Marga Mandalasakti (PT MMS) operates 72.5 km of Tangerang–Merak Toll Road, from KM 26 Bitung to KM 98 Merak, connecting Tangerang, Serang, and Cilegon, as part of the strategic Trans-Java toll network.

Since 2005, PT Astra Tol Nusantara has progressively increased its ownership in PT MMS, currently holding a 79.68% stake. As Astra Group’s first toll road investment, PT MMS continues to strengthen its role as the center of excellence through continuous innovation, technology adoption, and operational enhancement, including:

  • Weight in Motion (WIM)

The Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) system is designed to measure vehicle loads dynamically and generate automated notifications for overloaded vehicles to exit at the nearest toll gate. The collected data is also utilized for pavement performance evaluation and road infrastructure planning.

  • Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor (RTMS)

RTMS is a radar-based technology utilized for automated and real-time traffic monitoring, providing accurate data for operational management.

  • Variable Massage Sign (VMS)

A total of 17 Variable Message Sign (VMS) units are installed along the mainline area, along with 2 mobile VMS units. These digital LED-based information boards display real-time traffic information, warnings, and operational instructions to road users.

  • Warning Light

Tangerang–Merak Toll Road is equipped with 93 warning lights strategically installed along the toll road to enhance driver awareness and encourage safety driving behavior, particularly speed reduction.

  • Wire Rope

A steel safety barrier installed on the road median, engineered with flexibility to absorb impact, prevent cross-lane intrusion, and reduce accident fatalities.

  • Rumble Dot

Rumble dots are specially formulated hotmix materials with specific dimensions, installed at designated intervals along the inner shoulder or outer edge of the road shoulder marking. These dots generate vibrations and audible alerts when crossed by vehicles, which help warn fatigued or inattentive drivers.

  • Speed Reducer

Road markings engineered to prompt drivers slow down their vehicles.

  • Rumble Strips

Rumble strips are transverse markings installed across the lane. They generate vibrations and noise when crossed by vehicles, serving as an early warning system for drivers to reduce speed and remain alert. These are commonly installed before toll gates, curves, or accident-prone areas.

  • 24-Hour Toll Road Assistance Service

Astra Tol Tamer provides reliable 24-hour toll road services, supported by operational vehicles (patrol car, tow truck, rescue vehicle, and ambulance) to deliver responsive assistance for toll road users at no cost.

  • Communication Center

Communication Center officers at Astra Tol Tamer support traffic safety and operational efficiency by monitoring traffic activities, toll gate operations, and other facilities through CCTV networks, as well as coordinating traffic service units, towing, and ambulance services.
